Charlie's Positive Angels

Raising funds for AIDS Orphans at Nkosi's Haven in South Africa. The kids drew the art. Can view the kids stories on www.changethestigmaproject.com

We all remember the famous speach by Nkosi Johnson @ the Durban South Africa AIDS Conference in 2001.

" We are all human beings. We are normal. We have hands. We have feet. We can walk, we can talk, we have needs just like everyone else. Don't be afraid of us - we are all the same! - Nkosi Johnson 2001

Nkosi’s Haven is a recognized NGO in South Africa that has been in operation since 1999 offering holistic care and support for destitute HIV/AIDS infected mothers, her children, and resulting AIDS orphans (infected or not).

Nkosi’s Haven is named after Nkosi Johnson, the young AIDS activist who passed away on International Children’s Day on June 1st, 2001, who dearly wanted a facility that would care for the mom and her child.  He had been separated from his mom because of the HIV diagnosis and he never wanted that to happen to any other child.  He also wanted HIV positive people to be cared for without discrimination or prejudice.

Today Gail Johnson who adopted Nkosi is still living out his dream

Charlie  Jacobs, the founder of Change the Stigma Project has collaborated with Nkosi’s Haven’s kids and has launched a very exciting new project in Jan 2018, called the Charlie’s Positive Angels Project.

The Charlie’s Angels Project mission is to empower Nkosi Haven’s kids to unleash their creativity. We passionately believe that art is not about learning to draw; it’s about learning to see. That's why Charlie’s Positive Angels is rooted in giving back to Nkosi Haven, inspiring creativity.

We are getting the kids to draw their sketch art, printing it onto beautiful T-shirts and making it available to the public to buy for themselves.  And you get to wear a T-shirt knowing the money you spent is going towards one of these kid’s education. You will also be able to meet the kids on our website and see who drew the art for your T-shirt.

The main objective of the project is to raise funds for Nkosi Haven, with every T-shirt sold, funds are raised, and a portion will be donated towards Nkosi's Haven's Educational fund to help pay for these kids studies every year.

“I have been living with HIV for 15 years and yes, I was young and naive when I was infected and diagnosed at the early age of 22, but I still had a choice to protect myself. These kids don’t have a choice at all” – Charlie Jacobs

We also want to make the public aware of the wonderful work Gail Johnson, the inspiring women that adopted Nkosi Johnson is still doing today.
